Community Service Announcements hit the networks!

Community Service Announcements (CSAs) are advertisements that are played by radio and TV networks. The Young Members participated in the filming of these CSAs in Melbourne earlier this year. See what it was like to be part of the making of a real TV ad and view photos from behind-the-scenes!

If you haven’t already seen the two TV CSAs or heard the radio CSA, check them out here and let us know what you think.

Did you know?

The music which is played in the TV and radio CSAs is by a band called Operator Please. This cool, young Australian band was a finalist in the RockIT National Talent Competition last year and has been getting a lot of airtime on radio with their new song. Goes to show that National Youth Week can help you to Launch Yourself into whatever your interests are.

What the Young Members had to say about their experience filming the CSAs

Lori Saldana

Lori Saldana, Young Member for QLD

‘Who wouldn’t want to be in a TV ad right?

On the day of the shoot the weather was quite bad, it was cold and it was raining.  When we arrived on location I was actually quite reluctant to step out of the van.  But when I was asked to be in the next scene, I was quick to take of my numerous layers of jumpers and jumped out into the field.

So I put the safety gear on and after a few times of walking past the camera my part was over for the first ad.  The second half of the day was done in a huge studio.  Being in that studio made me feel like a star because it was exactly how I imagined it.  A portion of the studio floor was painted green so the production company could do some green screen shots - it’s when you have to pretend something is there cos they shoot the people doing their thing then add the background in later.

I’d just like to say get involved in NYW and make sure to tell us what you think about the ads cos your opinion matters!’
