Message from the Victorian Minister for Youth
National Youth Week (NYW) is a great opportunity to celebrate the significant contribution young Victorians make to their local communities, workplaces, schools and families.
That’s why the Victorian Coalition Government, in partnership with the Australian Government and Youthbeyondblue, is committed to supporting a broad range of events and activities during NYW from 13 - 22 April 2012.
Preparations for 2012 are well underway with the Victorian Government concluding its state-wide call for applications in December 2011. To keep up to date with Victorian preparations for NYW, I encourage you to visit www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/nyw.
It is estimated that 1,000 young Victorians will lead the way in coordinating an exciting mix of workshops, awards, competitions, sporting, cultural and music events – but don’t worry, there is sure to be something for everyone!
However, it is important to not only celebrate the contribution of young people during NYW but all-year-round and that’s why the Victorian Government has committed to recognising the achievements of young people through ongoing certificate presentations, highlighting stories of young people who are active in their communities on youthcentral, Facebook and Twitter, and by seeking regular advice on the views of young people through the Involve! Committee.
The Victorian Government also supports a number of programs such as Engage!, Youth Parliament, Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, Scouts & Guides and FReeZA. I encourage you to check out www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au to find out more information about what’s happening for young people in Victoria.
Lastly, I’d like to thank and congratulate Stephanie Raike for representing Victoria on the National Youth Week Committee as the Victorian Young Member. I encourage young Victorians to support her in this important role.
I look forward to seeing what happens when young Victorians ‘Imagine. Create. Inspire’ during National Youth Week 2012.
The Hon Ryan Smith MP
Minister for Youth Affairs
