National Youth Week in Queensland
National Youth Week (NYW) 2012 in Queensland will celebrate the views, ideas, participation and creativity of young people and promote them to the broader community.
The Queensland Government wants all young people to be valued and successfully participate in the government and community decision-making affecting the social, cultural and economic life of their communities.
The Queensland Department of Communities provides up to $70,000 for community organisations and networks, young people’s groups, and local government authorities in Queensland to apply for funding to facilitate the involvement of young Queenslanders in NYW events and activities.
In 2011, Queensland celebrated NYW with 19 events sponsored by beyondblue, 24 government funded events, and more than 140 community events that were held across the state.
Queensland NYW 2012 activities will support local and national objectives by ensuring that:
• young people are involved in decision making and have opportunities to influence NYW projects
• young people from disadvantaged and marginalised backgrounds, including young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, are actively supported to become involved in NYW projects
• the involvement of young people in NYW activities is promoted to the broader community and decision-makers through a variety of communication activities.
