Talent Comps - Conditions of Entry

  1. Information on how to enter, and prize details, form part of these conditions of entry.
  2. The Promoter is the Commonwealth of Australia, acting through the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Bonner House, Neptune Street, Woden, ACT. ABN 36 342 015 855.
  3. Entry is open to all eligible residents of Australia aged between 12 and 25 years of age as at 14 April 2008.
  4. Employees and immediate family members of the Promoter (the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs) and its publicity agencies (Haystac Public Affairs Pty Ltd) and all competition sponsors and media partners identified on the website (www.youthweek.com) are not eligible to enter.
  5. Submission of an entry is deemed acceptance of these conditions of entry.
  6. Entrants may be disqualified at any time in the event of any non-compliance with these conditions of entry.
  7. To enter you must be:
  • between 12 and 17 years of age (over 12 years and under 18 years of age on 14 April 2008) if entering the Junior age category either as a group or as an individual;
  • between 18 and 25 years of age (over 18 years and under 26 years of age on 14 April 2008) if entering the Senior age category either as a group or as an individual. Members of a group entry in the Senior age category may be a combination of Junior and Senior age categories;
  • an Australian resident;
  • To enter:
    • RockIT, you must not be already signed with a recording label;
    • WriteIT, you must not be already signed with a publisher;
    • ShootIT, you must not be already signed with a video production label;
    • DesignIT, you must not be already signed with a graphic design agency;
    • SnapIT, you must not be already signed with a photographic agency

and you must not be working professionally in the field in which you submit an entry.

  1. Entries in each competition category are open to individuals and groups. Group entries are limited to a maximum of 5 members.
  2. Up to 3 entries per individual/group can be submitted in any competition category. A separate entry form must accompany each entry.
  3. A parent or legal guardian must sign each entry form for each entrant who is under 18 years of age at the time of submission.
  4. Entries must have been created no earlier than 1 July 2007 and must be your own original work. All entries must be submitted in English, and must be suitable for viewing by people of all ages (i.e. G rated).
  5. Entries in each competition category must meet the following criteria:
    • RockIT must be an original vocal or instrumental piece no longer than 5 minutes in length, submitted as a MP3, WAV, WMA or ASF file or on CD. You can send your entry via email or post. To ensure that your entry was made for National Youth Week 2008, your piece must incorporate the theme ‘Make a Move’.
    • WriteIT must be fiction/prose or non-fiction and must be no more than 1500 words. Word counts will be calculated using Microsoft Word, Word Count tool. Entries are to be submitted as a DOC or RTF file or as a printed copy. You must use a Sans Serif font (such as Arial or Helvetica) and in double line spacing. You can send your entry via email or post. To ensure that your entry was made for National Youth Week 2008, your piece must incorporate the theme ‘Improving Mental Health’.
    • ShootIT entries must be a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length, including credits. You can send your entry as an MPG, AVI, WMV or ASF file or as a VHS tape or DVD. You can send your entry via email or post. To ensure that your entry was made for National Youth Week 2008, your film must incorporate the theme ‘Lose the L plates when it comes to money – making smart financial decisions’. If your entry contains images of people who are not entrants in the National Talent Competitions, you must get their permission to use their image. A personal image consent form must be filled out by each relevant person and sent in with your entry. If you do not have the consent of each relevant person, the entry may not be published due to privacy issues.
    • DesignIT entries must be a flat image digital design (animations will not be accepted) that fits within an A4 page when printed. Submit your entry as a JPG, TIF, EPS or PDF file. If using a Mac please ensure that your entry has a file extension, for example mydesign.pdf or mydesign.eps. You can send your entry via email or post. To ensure that your entry was made for National Youth Week 2008, your design must incorporate the theme ‘Make a Move’.
    • SnapIT entries must be a photograph submitted as a JPG, TIF or PDF file, or as a hardcopy print. You can send your entry via email or post. If using a Mac please ensure that your entry has a file extension, for example mydesign.pdf or mydesign.tif To ensure that your entry was made for National Youth Week 2008, your photo must incorporate the theme ‘Action and adventure in the outdoors’. If your entry contains images of people who are not entrants in the National Talent Competitions, you must get their permission to use their image. A personal image consent form must be filled out by each relevant person and sent in with your entry. If you do not have the consent of each relevant person, the entry may not be published due to privacy issues.
      Entries that have been digitaly manipulated will not be accepted.
  6. A list of credits and/or bibliography acknowledging any resources used or considered (including any recorded music) in the creation of your entry must be provided.
  7. You must secure and provide copyright clearance, in writing, for any part of your entry that is not your own creation.
  8. Entries close 5.00pm AEST Monday 14 April 2008.
  9. No responsibility will be accepted for late, lost, misdirected, incomplete or incorrect entries.
  10. Entries that are indecent, defamatory or inappropriate for public display will be disqualified.
  11. Each complete entry will be individually judged based on originality and creativity. This is a game of skill.  Chance plays no part in determining the winner. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  12. One Industry Awards winner, one People’s Choice Awards winner and three People’s Choice Awards finalists will be awarded in each age category in each competition.
  13. The best entry in each age category and competition category, as determined by the judges (Industry Awards winner), will win the major prizes as described on the website (www.youthweek.com).
  14. The next four (4) best entries in each age category and competition category, as determined by the judges, will be displayed on the www.youthweek.com website for judging by the public (People’s Choice Awards).
  15. Only one vote per person per category is permitted.
  16.  The best entry for each age category and competition category, as determined by those who vote via the website (People’s Choice Awards winner), will win the minor prizes as described on the website (www.youthweek.com).
  17. The next three (3) best entries for each age category and competition category, as determined by those who vote via the website (People’s Choice Awards finalists), will win the finalist prizes as described on the website (www.youthweek.com).
  18. Winners will be notified by email. All entries become the property of the Promoter. Please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you would like your entry returned.
  19. The Promoter may use the entrants' names, music, writing, videos, photography and designs for any commercial purpose.
  20. The Promoter reserves the right to use any entries for publicity purposes, including broadcasting entries in their entirety. This includes loading audio, video, digital art, photography and writing onto the National Youth Week (www.youthweek.com) website.
  21. Completion and submission of an entry will be deemed as acceptance by the entrant to the use and publication of their name, location, photograph, music, writing, videos or designs for the purpose of the National Youth Week National Talent Competitions.
  22. For entrants under 18 years of age on 14 April 2008, completion and submission of the entry form will be taken as the entrant’s parent or legal guardian having given their consent to the entrant’s submission in the National Talent Competition, as well as the use and publication of their name, location, photograph, music, writing, videos or designs for the purpose of the National Youth Week National Talent Competitions.
  23. Finalists are expected to cooperate with all reasonable requests by the Promoter (or their agents) to participate in relevant media interviews.
  24. Winners’ names, addresses, contact numbers and other relevant personal details may be provided to Haystac Public Affairs Pty Ltd and/or competition sponsors to enable the delivery of prizes.

RockIT

  1. Each age category finalist (up to 5 band members in each age category) in the People’s Choice Award, will win the finalist prize/s described at www.youthweek.com
  2. Each age category winner (up to 5 band members in each age category) in the People’s Choice Award, will win the minor prize/s described at www.youthweek.com
  3. Each age category winner (up to 5 band members in each age category) in the Industry Award, will win the major prize/s described at www.youthweek.com
  4. Prize/s must be claimed before the end of October 2008 or as otherwise specified.
  5. Unless otherwise stated, prize/s can be redeemed by one (1) person only.
  6. Prize/s are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. In the event that for any reason a prize winner does not take the prize or any part of their prize at the time stipulated by the Promoter, all rights in relation to the prize or to that part of the prize is forfeited and cash will not be awarded in lieu. No responsibility is accepted for any variation in the prize or its value.
  7. All ancillary costs, including but not limited to spending money, meals, taxes, insurance, transport to and from departure point and transfers, associated with redeeming the prize/s are the sole responsibility of the winner/s unless otherwise specified.
  8. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from the prize winnings. Independent financial advice should be sought.
  9. The Promoter is not liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained during the course of the prize winning trip or during the assignment except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

WriteIT

  1. Each age category finalist in the People’s Choice Award, will win the finalist prize/s described at www.youthweek.com
  2. Each age category winner in the People’s Choice Award, will win the minor prize/s described at www.youthweek.com
  3. Each age category winner in the Industry Award, will win the major prize/s described at www.youthweek.com
  4. Prize/s must be claimed before the end of October 2008 or as otherwise specified.
  5. Unless otherwise stated, prize/s can be redeemed by one (1) person only.
